If you’re like most of us, the privacy you treasure is no longer private at all. We were all recently bombarded with media coverage spotlighting privacy breaches committed against institutions like Goldman Sachs, the New York Stock Exchange, and federal agencies—institutions that are supposed to be cyber-security fortresses. If the security of these institutions can be breached, how is there any hope for the small business owner who does not have the monetary resources for such security measures? Read more »

It’s an all too common nightmare: a professional or business person works hard all of their lives to accumulate a certain level of wealth and then loses it all when they are hit by an unexpected lawsuit. Perhaps a visitor is injured in their home(s) or they are involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist.
If they do not have adequate insurance to cover the liability, personal assets may be seized. A life of success wiped away. Read more »

We’re heading into an exciting summer season: graduation parties for your child and one hundred of their closest friends, family reunions and July 4th barbeques. However, if you don’t take the proper precautions, your summer fun can quickly boomerang on you.
With so many different people coming onto your property it’s easy for a piece of jewelry to go missing, antique glassware to get broken or “horsing around” at the pool to turn into a dangerous situation. Though you hope none of these incidents will happen, it’s important to be prepared. Read more »

For me Memorial Day is not only the kickoff to a great summer, but it’s also a time for family gatherings, picnics and barbecues. It’s time to reopen the pool and have fun!
However, when you invite people onto your property, you’re exposing yourself to risk. Just “monkeying around” can quickly turn into a dangerous boating accident, pool tragedy or ATV wreck. Though you hope tragedy never strikes, if forced to retain an attorney, chances are legal costs would far exceed the limits for most homeowner, boat or auto insurance policies. Additionally, you should review your homeowner’s policy to ensure that you have proper coverage for other structures on your property such as pool houses, guest cottages and in-ground pools.
This Memorial Day, build a firewall against risk. If you have any questions, never hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day!

With the nation in the midst of the worst economic recession, more and more of our clients are finding that their customers can’t pay. Even large customers. And even those that they thought were financially stable. Read more »

As a financial advisor, chances are you have an E&O (Errors & Omissions) insurance policy designed to protect you against claims of malpractice.
Based on this, you believe you can sleep well at night.
Sorry, but it may be time to rethink that and come out of your comfort zone.

All too often, there is a direct correlation between business conditions and employee litigation.
Just as management may be downsizing to reduce overhead and keep the company competitive, terminated employees–no matter how honorably they may have been treated–often file claims and initiate lawsuits for everything from sexual harassment to age and racial discrimination.
To make matters worse, defending even baseless suits can cost companies tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. In other words, the downsizing can backfire on you. Read more »
